Classes

We aim to teach art in an enjoyable way, as we find children are more engaged, and learn more through this approach. Our classes are in two age groups, from ages 5-8 and ages 9-12. Our aim is to build children's confidence as well as their artistic abilities. To do this we encourage our students to tell us what they like about their art, and commit to the belief that there are no mistakes just learning opportunities.

We teach using example paintings by masters (such as Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh, da Vinci) - to acquaint children with these artists, as well as give them direction in their work, this teaches children the foundations of art as we examine and discuss these master artworks. We also place a strong emphasis on the enjoyment of art, this is central to our vision.

In a typical term we will teach drawing using pencil, ink, charcoal, and mixed media . We will also work on canvas for a major work, using acrylic paint. This is done towards the end of the term, so that children can put the skills they learnt to use on a canvas that can be shown off to their friends and family.  As well as this we also teach 2 weeks of pottery making per term, where children design a piece and have it fired and glazed.
