Art Classes - Ages 9-12

In this class, children learn the fundamentals of art. The term is 8 weeks long with classes once a week for an hour and a half. The lessons are kept informative as well as fun, so that the children remain engaged and create work they can be proud of. The course is structured around 3 weeks of drawing, 2 weeks of pottery and 3 weeks of painting.

Children will learn  to draw with a variety of different mediums, including pencil, charcoal, ink and pastel. Drawing is the foundation of many different types of art, so throughout the term we get our students to sketch and do warm up drawing exercises.

Pottery is taught by our tutors, students will create a piece of pottery that they can be proud of and take home with them at the end of term. Pottery teaches our students how to work in 3 dimensional space, and the physicality of working with the clay is something that is soothing and lots of fun.

As well as drawing and pottery, students will learn the basics of painting, how to mix colours, the difference between warm and cool colours, and how to apply paint. Children will use the skills that they have acquired throughout the term to create a painting on canvas. Each term different art themes, such as portraiture, landscapes, still life will be explored to help develop and introduce children to different artists throughout history.
